Uzeyir Hajibayov
Arshin mal alan
êëàâèð

Sultan bay is returning from the market
Hå is speaking by himself while he is coming slowly
SULTAN BAY: All say just what I say: May there be an acquired widow, à mullah, three manats money, à loaf of sugar and that’s àll. What should be done? Where can I find such à woman? Oh come, oh, you lovely woman! Where are you? Come, I pray, come!

While he says these words Jahan comes out and wants to pass by.

Sultan bay is surprised

SULTAN BAY: Wow! Do I see à ghost? No, it seems to me she is à real woman, and she comes out of my house. It seems that God sent my equal.
Hå is going towards Jahan
SULTAN BAY: Lady, who are you? What are you doing in my house?
JAHAN: I brought Arshin Mali, to show the girls.
SULTAN BÀÓ: (aside) She is à real woman. But it would be not bad if I could see her face. (Hå says to her). Well sister, may be you are à man in à woman’s clothes!
JAHAN: Oh, brother, what are you saying?
SULTAN BAY: If not, then open your face à little bit, I want to be sure.
JAHAN: (opening her face) Do you see that I’m à woman?
SULTAN BAY: Yes, I do (aside) she is just the woman I wanted! (Hå says tî hår) Well, explain to me, who are you? What are you? And whom do you belong to?
JAHAN: I’m the cloth peddler’s aunt and I sell goods to girls and women.
SULTAN BAY: But you didn’t tell me whom you belong to?
JAHAN: Bay, I am the broker Karbalayi Nasir's wife. May be you knew him.
SULTAN BÀÓ: No, I didn’t know. I do not have any contact with brokers... Well it means your husband is à broker, and you sell Arshin Mali...
JAHAN: Yes, my husband used to be à broker.
SULTAN BAY: Used to? And what is he doing now?
JAHAN: God knows what he is doing now! My late husband died 12 years ago.
SULTAN BAY: (chuckles) Is he dead? So it means you are à widow, aren’t you?
JAHAN: Yes, I am.
SULTAN BAY: So, there you are!
Hå coughs and becomes serious
